What makes good writing? It depends. It depends on what the goal of your writing is. Are you writing a manual? Are you writing a novel? What is the purpose of your writing?
Good writing should follow a logical structure. Most of the things we write convey some kind of information whether it be stories or how to make a cake. Although recipes generally benefit from a concrete structure and unexpected twists and turns and non linear writing make a story interesting, in the end one should have a finished product, which is logically constructed and understandable as a whole picture.
People used to say that Linux is for people who don’t value their time. Those who are still convinced of this haven’t experienced the pleasures of Windows when logging into an old computer and then having to wait through the few minutes of auto-start programs before anything can be done with the operating system. It’s completely dysfunctional. The faster boot and load time has saved me the needed configuration time multiple times over.
When doing something, simplicity is something that brings a lot of benefits and should be actively pursued. Take programming as an example. Simplicity makes systems easier to reason about. When you can reason about something, you can more easily optimize it. When you have to think less, you save time, allowing you to focus on other things. You need less resources. This is self evident.
On the flip side, simplicity can be dangerous.
Hello World. This is the new iteration of my website. Just a simple static site for now. Simplicity is king when starting something. I’ll post about things I’m doing and working on as well as anything interesting I encounter along the way.
